Young and undocumented: an Amsterdam debate
Recently, the city of Amsterdam has begun to pay explicit attention to the thousands of young undocumented migrants who live in the city. What is their plight? What are their rights? In March 2020 Barbara Oomen joined a (Dutch) discussion on these questions. Together with a number of youngsters from Amsterdam, the alderman, the children’s ombudsman, politicians and others involved she discussed the possibilities that local authorities have to bridge the gap between rights and reality at the level of the city.
