Elif Durmuş is the PhD researcher of Cities of Refuge responsible for the research in Turkey and Switzerland. She is a Turkish citizen who has concluded her education in Bangladesh, Turkey and Germany. Upon graduating from Ankara University Law Faculty, she started an Advanced Masters in Public International Law at Leiden University, where she specialised in Peace, Justice and Development, taking the track “Transitional Justice and Sustainable Development”. She has been an Assistant Editor for the Leiden Journal of International Law during her studies in Leiden. She will be focusing on the legal questions of the project Cities of Refuge, particularly the position Cities as addressees of obligations in international human rights law, the relationship between refugee law and human rights, and the burning point of “Integration” as a common denominator between human rights, refugee law and the functions of local governments.
